Herman Scheidt

Herman Scheidt, a proud World War II veteran and lifelong California Central Valley resident, was born to George and Katherine Scheidt on March 21, 1925, in Fresno, California. In 1936, the Scheidt family moved to Kerman, California, where they began farming, establishing the foundation for Herman’s future in agriculture. In 1942, inspired by a sense of duty to his country, Herman enlisted in the United States Navy. He served honorably in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, seeing action in the South Pacific. After three years of dedicated service, Herman was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned home to Kerman, where he resumed his life as a farmer. Shortly after, he married Bernice Huber on November 30, 1946. Their marriage began a beautiful partnership filled with hard work, devotion to family, and community service. Herman and Bernice’s commitment to their community was evident throughout their lives. For over 18 years, Herman was a dedicated 4-H leader, imparting the skills and joys of woodworking to young people in the area. As an active member of the Bulldog Foundation for 19 years, he supported local education and athletics. His leadership extended into social and civic organizations, including his tenure as past president of the Edison Social Club and a directorship at the Guild Wineries and Distilleries Cooperative.
