David Ruby

Staff Sergeant David Ruby:

Staff Sergeant David Ruby enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946 at the age of 20, joining his six brothers in a shared legacy of service to their country. While the official declaration of peace had been announced, post-war military operations continued, and David served as part of the Military Police, contributing to the effort to restore and maintain order in the aftermath of global conflict.

In 1977, the Ruby brothers were honored as the Grand Marshals of the Veterans Day Parade in Fresno, a tribute to their remarkable dedication and service. Reflecting on their shared accomplishment, David’s brother Conrad noted with pride that all seven Ruby brothers went to war and returned safely—a rare and profound family achievement. Remarkably, their cousins, with eight brothers who also served and returned home, shared in this legacy of resilience and sacrifice.

The Ruby brothers, all sons of Johannes Ruby, exemplified a commitment to protect the freedoms they valued deeply. By the time of Pearl Harbor, four had already enlisted, and eventually, six served overseas simultaneously, representing branches from the California Army National Guard to the Military Police. Together, they endured the hardships of war and left a lasting legacy of loyalty, courage, and dedication.
